A Small History
Broken Shackles began as a dream by Jonathan (lead guitar/backup vocals) and Daniel (drums) around 2001. Wanting a gig at the now deceased "Rock n Java" coffee house in Charlotte, Jonathan made a deal w/ Thad (bass/webmaster). If Jonathan and Daniel could get the chance to perform at RnJ, Thad would be their bass player for that show.
After Thad was finally able to get his own bass to play on (instead of practicing on a beat up 1960-something Kay Bass), he began to like the growing concept of Broken Shackles and after the band shook the foundations of the coffee house, Thad was hooked.
In 2003, Mark Chambers (lead vocals/acoustic guitar) was added to make a 4-member group of fun loving, God serving, concert-rocking guys who live for one purpose.
That purpose, through Christ, is to break the chains of those burdoned by sin, depression, loneliness, the feeling of necessity to live up to social standards, peer pressure, personal past, or any other binding spirit. We've each had our own troubles and experiences. We've each had to overcome those obstacles and free ourselves in Christ. We each have our own personal testimonies. But, we share a common goal.....break the shackles.
